Schedule:

The Institute is held on the campus of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Practice rooms are provided every day, and nearby dormitory rooms are available for those coming in from out of town.

• Sunday, June 23rd: Performers can check in this afternoon, and later that day (time to be determined), we will have an orientation meeting with all participants and the staff.

• Monday, June 24th: Full-day classes begin this day and continue through Saturday, July 13th:, six days a week, from 9:00 a.m. to around 6:00 p.m., with a few evening sessions on occasion. We do not meet on Sundays, except for the first orientation meeting.

A typical day at the Institute begins with a morning movement class, followed by a large group class team-taught by Institute staff exploring the basics of integrated singing-acting. After lunch, we break up into small groups to study vocal play, musical improvisation, collaborative principles, song and aria interpretation, etc., and then the afternoon continues with scene rehearsals facilitated by Institute staff. Participants have substantial breaks during the afternoon.

A very limited number of positions as Stage Director/Dramatic Coach or as Music Director are available this year. These participants attend all Institute activities and work closely with performers on their scenes. If you are interested in these competitive positions, contact us directly at balk@nautilusmusictheater.org before submitting your materials.
